Marketing Director, Creative Strategy at Darkroom

Director leads creative strategy for performance marketing campaigns across paid media channels, providing tactical feedback on design/video and developing high-converting advertisements.

What this role involves

About Darkroom

Darkroom is the leading next-generation growth marketing firm engineering the brands of tomorrow. Founded in 2017, we set out to redefine what a modern agency could be, by replacing the inertia of legacy advertising behemoths with a model built for speed, intelligence, and measurable impact.

At our core, Darkroom is a human services company powered by Shadow, a universal AI commerce layer that integrates executive-level strategy with proprietary agentic technology. This fusion enables our teams to deliver outsized returns by enhancing creative output, operational efficiency, and revenue generation across every stage of the customer journey.

Our track record speaks for itself: billions in attributable revenue driven across e-commerce marketplaces, media networks, DTC ecosystems, and social commerce platforms. Every engagement feeds into our proprietary data infrastructure, enabling a continuous feedback loop that accelerates growth, improves margins, and compounds results across our client portfolio.

What began as a boutique design studio has evolved into one of the fastest-growing private companies in America (Inc. 5000) and among the most effective performance media agencies of the 2020s (Varos). Our founders were recognized by Forbes 30 Under 30 for advancing the intersection of technology, marketing, and advertising, cementing Darkroom’s role as a defining player in the future of media innovation.

About the Role

We’re looking for a visionary creative leader with deep experience in developing ad concepts for digital paid media advertising formats on Meta, TikTok, and other channels. You’re able to dive deep into the pixels and give tactical feedback on design and video, but understand how to thread the needle between performance frameworks, creative testing, and world-building assets. You’re likely a Creative Strategist by trade with a background in Design, Video Editing, or Performance Marketing. You are hyper-focused on paid media performance and developing advertisements that sell products and services.

You’ll work on our Performance Creative and/or Organic Social service—our Al-powered creative strategy engagement for paid media clients that want to work with us on the following:

  • Expertise: Engage us for our expertise in creative strategy, which includes assessing the efficacy of their ad hooks, ad bodies, and creative direction. You will have a clear perspective on how to improve this over time.

  • Sales: Deliver game-changing creative ads that sell their products and services better than anyone else.

  • Diversity: Increase the creative diversity of their ad program through the use of multiple ad formats: statics, motion, video, UGC, AI.

  • Volume: Increase the volume of their performance creative program by delivering upwards of 50+ new ads per month with the intention of scaling that as needed.

This role is ideal for someone who thrives at the intersection of creativity, AI, and performance, combining bold visual storytelling with data-informed design decisions. You’ll report to the Director of Creative and lead Designers and Editors to execute paid media assets across a variety of formats, including static ads, short-form videos, motion graphics, and UGC content. Your work will directly impact client performance by delivering a high volume of ad concepts, elevated creative direction, and data-backed testing frameworks.

This is a fully remote role operating in the EST Time Zone and all business is conducted 100% in English.

What you’ll do:

Responsibilities:

  • Creative Strategy: Lead high-tempo creative strategy and direction for full-funnel ad programs, typically Meta and TikTok, but also YouTube, Amazon, and Display Platforms. You own the creative end-to-end: concept, testing, and iteration, not just strategy-setting.

  • Organic Social: You may also lead organic content strategies for Instagram and TikTok by owning content pillars, creative direction, briefing, and performance measurement.

  • Short Form Video Expert: Deliver expert advice, concepts, directions, and briefs to sell products and services through short-form video.

  • Data Analysis: Translate client’s marketing strategy and performance data into clear, compelling ad concepts (This includes using metrics like thumb-stop rate, hold rate, and clickthrough rate. You’re super comfortable adapting creatives to impact these metrics.)

  • Cross-Team Collaboration: Brief Designers and Editors on the creation of assets including static ads, animations, mobile-first videos, and storyboards for short-form content. You’re capable of jumping into shape up a design in Figma or whip up an ad yourself without concern, if need be. This isn’t the role for strategy-only folks.

  • Executive Presentation: Present creative work to stakeholders and clients with clarity, confidence, and strategic rationale.

  • Performance Iteration: Monitor performance data in collaboration with the marketing team to inform creative iterations and improve results over time.

  • Operations: Design and implement scalable processes, systems, and testing frameworks that raise the quality and speed floor as the department grows in headcount and account volume.

  • Team Building: Mentor and upskill strategists against a defined methodology. Shape the agency’s approach on creative strategy and document a point of view on how testing, concepting, and creative decision-making should work at Darkroom.

You should apply if this sounds like you:

  • 2+ years in a Director-level or equivalent leadership role, with experience leading creative strategy, managing teams, and driving performance marketing results.

  • 4+ years of creative strategy work on performance ad programs, with specific focus working on short form video and statics. If you have not made any short-form video or driven creative strategy on Meta, this role is not for you.

  • A digital portfolio showcasing performance ad work that includes short-form video, motion, and statics. Examples of what you did to impact metrics like hold rate or CTR. Evidence of strong creative diversity that includes both highly designed and low-fidelity creative.

  • You can storyboard, cut, and ship ads. You can jump into Figma to fix hierarchy and pacing, and into Photoshop or Illustrator to polish assets. Strategy-only folks will not be a fit.

  • You speak in hooks, angles, and metrics. You know thumb-stop rate, 3-second hold, hook retention, CTR, and CPA, and you use them to decide what to test next.

  • You already use tools like Claude, Midjourney, Perplexity, Icon, Runway, or similar to increase speed and volume. You have shipped ads with AI-assisted elements, not just experiments.

  • You’re an excellent communicator, both in writing and when presenting to clients. You give crisp, actionable feedback to designers and editors and know how to navigate pushback from clients

  • You can turn vague goals into testable concepts, track results, and call the next iteration without hand-holding.

  • Comfortable in Figma including Auto Layout, components, and systems. Strong in Adobe Creative Suite.

Hard disqualifiers

  • No Meta performance creative ad experience.

  • No portfolio link or no performance context.

  • Strategy-only with no full-funnel ownership. Haven’t been accountable for testing, iteration, or driving deliverables and results.

  • Not excellent in client presentation and salesmanship.

What It’s Like to Work at Darkroom

Darkroom is not a typical agency. We are looking for A players who want to build something great. We move fast, think deeply, and expect every team member to bring insight and rigor to everything they touch. We hold a high bar for performance, creativity, and ownership — but we also support each other relentlessly. No egos, no red tape — just world-class talent building something remarkable.

We believe in autonomy with accountability, truth over comfort, and outcomes over optics.

  • Unlimited PTO + US holidays: Rebooting is part of the work. Take the time you need to stay sharp.

  • Remote-First Culture: Many roles are fully remote. Employees based in or near our New York or Lisbon HQs are expected to work hybrid with weekly in-office time. Hub locations include the Brazil and Spain.

  • Health & Wellness: Company-sponsored medical, dental, and vision coverage.

  • Finances, growth, and retirement: Darkroom offers a robust 401(k) program with company match and profit-sharing opportunities to help you save and grow as the company grows.

  • Parental Leave: Flexible parental leave to support new parents during this important transition.

  • Growth: Our interdisciplinary model gives every Darkroomer exposure far beyond their core role. Grow your skills, expand your influence, and stay at the forefront of the industry.

  • Compensation: The base salary range for this role is $160,000-$175,000 per year. This range represents the anticipated minimum and maximum for this position and applies to candidates based in New York, including New York City, in compliance with the New York State Pay Transparency Law and the New York City Salary Transparency Law. Actual compensation within this range will be determined based on experience, skills, and qualifications.

Equal Opportunity Statement

We also consider qualified applicants regardless of criminal histories, consistent with legal requirements.

Leads Stripe's self-serve paid media strategy and team, managing multi-channel acquisition campaigns across search, social, and video to drive efficient growth and revenue.

Lead Remote Posted 4 days ago We Work Remotely — Programming
What this role involves

Headquarters: San Francisco, New York, Seattle, Chicago, Atlanta, Remote in the US, Toronto, Remote in Canada

Who we are

About Stripe

Stripe is a financial infrastructure platform for businesses. Millions of companies - from the world’s largest enterprises to the most ambitious startups - use Stripe to accept payments, grow their revenue, and accelerate new business opportunities. Our mission is to increase the GDP of the internet, and we have a staggering amount of work ahead. That means you have an unprecedented opportunity to put the global economy within everyone's reach while doing the most important work of your career.

About the team

Stripe's growth marketing team is responsible for driving efficient acquisition and activation of millions of businesses globally from solo founders to scaling startups. Paid media is a critical pillar of our self-serve acquisition strategy. The paid media team manages significant investment across search, social, video and other channels to acquire developers, founders, and operators who will build on Stripe. We partner deeply with growth, data science, analytics, data engineering, creative, finance and other marketers to deliver profitable growth via paid media.

What you’ll do

As Head of Self-Serve Paid Media, you will own and evolve Stripe's self-serve paid acquisition strategy, managing a team of 5-10 paid media experts and working cross-functionally with leaders across analytics, creative, product marketing, growth engineering, and finance. You'll be responsible for a substantial media budget and accountable for delivering efficient, scalable growth in signups, activations, and revenue. In this role, you'll own the long term strategy for how paid media delivers growth in Stripe’s self-serve business. You'll identify new channels and formats, build measurement frameworks that connect spend to business outcomes, and develop your team into world-class practitioners. You'll partner closely with data science to advance our attribution and incrementality capabilities, and with internal and external creative partners to produce high-performing assets at scale.

Responsibilities

  • Own the self-serve paid media strategy end-to-end, including budget allocation, channel mix, and performance targets across search, social, display, video, and other channels
  • Lead, develop, and retain a high-performing team of 5-10 paid media specialists, fostering a culture of experimentation, craft, and growth
  • Drive measurable improvements in acquisition efficiency (ROAS, incremental activations) while scaling total investment
  • Partner cross-functionally with analytics, creative strategy, growth engineering, product marketing, lifecycle, and finance to maximize the potential impact of paid media
  • Improve the measurement capabilities: partner with data science to improve attribution modeling, incrementality testing (geo-holdouts, media mix models), and forecasting
  • Develop and manage the self-serve paid media budget, including pacing, forecasting, and executive reporting
  • Identify and scale emerging channels and formats
  • Represent paid media performance and strategy in leadership forums and to diverse stakeholders.

Who you are

We're looking for someone who meets the minimum requirements to be considered for the role. If you meet these requirements, you are encouraged to apply. The preferred qualifications are a bonus, not a requirement.

Minimum requirements

  • 10+ years of experience in performance marketing or paid media, with at least 3 years leading a team
  • Demonstrated experience managing large-scale paid media budgets with accountability for business outcomes through to revenue (i.e. not just top of funnel)
  • Strong analytical foundation: understand attribution, incrementality testing, LTV and data-driven optimization
  • Experience in B2B SaaS, developer tools, fintech, or high-growth technology companies
  • Track record of building, developing, and retaining high-performing marketing teams
  • Creative sensibility: you have a strong POV on what creative works best for each platform and the level of creative velocity and quality that is required
  • Experience working cross-functionally with data science, engineering, creative, and finance partners to deliver growth

Preferred qualifications

  • Experience with self-serve or product-led growth models where paid media must drive not just leads but product activations
  • Background in international paid media strategy, including managing campaigns across multiple markets and languages
  • Experience building or advancing measurement capabilities such as media mix models, geo-based incrementality testing, or multi-touch attribution systems
  • Comfort operating in a fast-paced, metrics-driven culture

Build and scale growth marketing channels for a new AI product, managing paid campaigns, lead generation, and funnel reporting to drive pipeline and revenue.

What this role involves

About Hightouch

Hightouch is an Agentic Marketing Platform powered by the industry-leading Composable CDP. With complete brand context, customer data, and performance history in one place, every marketer finally has the power to build and ship end-to-end campaigns themselves. Teams move faster, stay on brand, and get AI marketing that actually works.

Founded in 2019 and headquartered in San Francisco, Hightouch enables marketing teams to analyze performance, brainstorm ideas, and generate creative at a speed and quality that wasn’t previously possible.

Named a Leader in the 2026 Gartner® Magic Quadrant™ for Customer Data Platforms, Hightouch is trusted by leading enterprises like Domino’s, Spotify, Aritzia, Cars.com, Ramp, and PetSmart.

At Hightouch, our mission is to help our customers leverage data and AI to grow their businesses. The team is ambitious, impact-driven, efficient — and we believe humility, kindness, and compassion are essential to our success. If you’re energized by velocity, obsessed with raising the bar, and want to build alongside people who care deeply about each other and our customers, we’d love to meet you.

About the Role

We’re looking for a Growth Marketing Lead to build the revenue funnel for our new product: Ad Studio,  an AI-powered creative platform for performance marketing teams. It turns performance data, market trends, competitor activity, brand guidelines, and existing creative assets into on-brand ad concepts at scale. You’ll own the full growth marketing motion: paid ads, webinars, lead generation, and content that earns attention in the market.

If you’re an expert performance marketer with an entrepreneurial spirit who wants to build a revenue engine for a breakout product at a hypergrowth startup, this role is for you.

What You’ll Do

  • Build and scale growth channels for Ad Studio: Launch and optimize paid campaigns across LinkedIn, Meta, Google, and emerging channels. Ideate and create lead magnets to anchor the funnel.
  • Measure everything: Build reporting on funnel conversion, CPL, and pipeline. Use the data to make decisions on budget distribution and future testing plans.
  • Move like a founder: Set your own roadmap, experiment often, and treat Ad Studio’s pipeline like it’s your own company’s.

What We’re Looking For

  • Performance marketing expertise: 5+ years running paid acquisition and demand gen at a B2B SaaS company, with a proven record of driving pipeline and revenue.
  • Founder mentality: Your default is “I’ll go do it myself.” You’ve built programs from 0 → 1 and you’re energized by a blank slate.
  • Builder instincts: Hands-on with AI tools and curious to learn and build
  • Strong writing: You can write a blog post that takes a stance and earns attention, and ad copy that stops the scroll.
  • Analytical rigor: Deep comfort with funnel metrics, attribution, and experiment design. Ability to tell a story through data.
  • Hypergrowth appetite: You want the pace, ambiguity, and ownership that come with a breakout product at a fast-scaling startup.

Bonus If You Have

  • Experience marketing to marketers, or a background in adtech, martech, or creative tooling.
  • Prior founder, founding marketer, or early-stage startup experience.
  • Familiarity with CDPs, data warehouses, or the modern data stack ecosystem.

If you’re excited about building the revenue engine for an AI product that’s redefining how ads get made, we’d love to hear from you.

The salary range for this position is $140,000 - $180,000 USD per year, which is location-independent in accordance with our remote-first policy. We also offer meaningful equity compensation in the form of ISO options and offer early exercise and a 10-year post-termination exercise window.

E-Verify Statement

Hightouch participates in E-Verify. After you join the team, we’ll verify your eligibility to work in the U.S. by submitting information from your Form I-9 to the Social Security Administration and, if needed, the Department of Homeland Security. This process happens post-hire only — we never use E-Verify to pre-screen applicants.
